Chapter four

Arrival

Meanwhile, miles from Flik and the Circus bugs, Atta was being escorted by big brutes of bugs into a dark, cold cave . Two of the bugs were leading her, while the others were escorting her to make sure she did not run off. They dragged her along the lair until they came into a large open room. In it was a throne made of leaves, and on that throne was the ant who had kidnapped Atta the night before. He looked at her, and smirked.

"Good evening, my pet," he said, "I hope my guards have been treating you well." Atta said nothing, unable to due to total fear.

"T-t-they've been good," Atta managed. The ant smiled,

"I suppose you're wondering who I am." the ant continued. "Well, I am known as Kaliman, king of the Negative Ants. I rule this land with an iron fist, and don't you forget it!"  he chuckled slightly to himself before turning back to Atta.

"Now," Kaliman spat, "I will ask you a question, and you better give me a good answer. The question is this: Just where  is that thing of power I hear runs through the colony?"

Atta simply stared at him, shocked that he knew. "I-I-I don't know what you're talking about," she stammered.

"That's a LIE!" Kaliman shouted furiously. "I've been after this  thing for MORE than TEN years now!!  Now tell me!! WHERE IS THAT POWER?!?!"

"I've TOLD you," said Atta, who was now quivering with fright. "I don't KNOW about such a thing. Surely you must have the wrong queen. PLEASE just leave me alone."

"You're wrong, my pet,"  Kaliman snarled. "I have been watching your colony for years, and everything I have learned about it has led straight to you. You'll eventually confess, willingly or not. Now, I guess you need a little more time in your room to think things over. Guards, take her there. But men, do not treat her roughly, do you understand? She is not to be harmed." The men saluted, and left, taking Atta back to her room. "So long, Princess," Kaliman called out as they walked away.

The room where Atta was being kept was a small one. The door was made of stone, and a few guards were standing by it twenty four seven to prevent her from simply walking out. The room also had a bed, a mirror, and a bathtub that would regularly be filled clean water if she decided to take a bath. Atta was scared beyond belief. She remembered those times waiting for the Grasshoppers, fearing that they were not satisfied with what was presented to them. Now those days seemed like paradise compared to this. Atta's thoughts turned to everyone on Ant Island. She thought of Dot, she missed her little sister so badly, and how she wished she could see her again. She thought of her mother, and how worried she must be. But most of all, she thought of Flik, the ant she had fallen in love with. Had he been killed trying to save her? She couldn't bear the thought, trying to shove it from her mind.

Finally, she thought of something that scared her the most: What did this ant have in store for her?
